ABOUT US
- Irregular Shapes: Bamboo’s natural variations in diameter, wall thickness, and taper make it difficult to use standard connectors or achieve uniform strength connections.
- Material Properties: Bamboo is prone to splitting, especially at connection points where drill holes & fasteners penetrate or pressure is applied, requiring innovative joining methods to maintain structural integrity.
- Durability and Weathering: Bamboo is vulnerable to moisture, insects, and decay. Ensuring that connections are durable under different environmental conditions is crucial for long-lasting structures.
- Joint Stability: Bamboo’s cylindrical, smooth surface can make it hard to create secure and slip-resistant joints. Effective friction and locking mechanisms are essential to prevent movement.
- Modularity: Achieving modularity with bamboo can be complex because of the natural inconsistencies and challenges in creating repeatable, standardised units.
- Load Distribution: Uneven load distribution at joints can weaken the structure. Connections need to effectively distribute forces to avoid localised stress concentrations.
- Sustainability of Connectors: Using connectors made from non-renewable materials can undermine bamboo's environmental benefits. Developing sustainable connection solutions is an ongoing challenge.
- Cost and Accessibility: Some advanced connection methods can be expensive or require specialised skills, limiting broader use in architectural applications.
OUR MISSION
Building bridges between design and sustainability
Our system offers a transformative solution that preserves the strength and longevity of bamboo while enhancing its aesthetic appeal.
Bastion Group is committed to directing funds to two charities to enhance the environments we build and protect the ocean we love.
Zara and Ashton are siblings, who have been passionate about the ocean and marine life from an early age. Over the past four years, they have evolved a campaign to raise awareness about 'hidden plastic' that not only hides everywhere in our environment. Increasingly, more information is coming out about the dangers of nanoplastics, which have been found throughout our seas, in our air and even in human blood. In other words, everywhere!
A new era of bamboo building
with modular connections crafted for durability, beauty, and the planet.
